Notes: Each peak in this list is the highest peak on the opposite side of the named river from the state highpoint. Some canals and straits are included. Usually, more than one waterway has been selected in a given state. For example, in Arizona the highest north of the Colorado River is one entry, and another is the highest south of the Gila River. Take your pick or climb both of them.
