List "Idaho's North Central Hills" By The Scrambler
Notes: The North Central Hills (my unofficial name) are located in north central Idaho between White Bird and Coeur d'Alene Lake. These hills are bounded by the Bitterroot Crest to the east and the minor hills (and flattish terrain) of Eastern Washington to the west. This area includes the cities of Grangeville, Lewiston, Moscow, and Saint Maries.
I created this list to separate these peaks from the extensive Clearwater Mountains (and their foothills) to the east, which lead up to the Bitterroot Crest. The North Central Hills are bounded to the south by the Salmon River west of Grangeville. The northern boundary is the south end of the Selkirk Mountains, just north of Setters.
The eastern boundary is defined by US-95 from White Bird to Grangeville. From Grangeville, the peaks lie to the west of ID-13 and US-12 heading north then west to just east of Lewiston. The peaks then lie to the west of ID-3 northward to Saint Maries. From Saint Maries, the peaks lie on the west side of Coeur d'Alene Laken northward to just north of Setters.
While my definition of the boundaries of these hills is somewhat arbitrary, the boundaries are easy to see and allow for extensive foothills for the Clearwater Mountains without creating confusion between those foothills and the North Central Hills. Please note that IACG considers the Palouse Range (north of Moscow) and the Hoodoo Mountains (south of Saint Maries) as part of the Clearwater Mountains. I believe that these two subgroups of mountains deserve separate treatment from the Clearwaters and I include them in the North Central Hills.
