Agree, this is an unexpected accomplishment.
The progress by state is shown at
http://tinyurl.com/nezo5jz which shows 19 states with fewer peaks that are
not completed. Of these IL looks pretty easy
to polish off, and I expect MN would be completed
by now if not for bad access.

Never say never :)
VT with 733 summits is one possibility. PA with 889
is likely easier hiking, but could have some access
issues.
Of course the one state that looks to be flat out
impossible is Alaska, where Ben Still has climbed
an impressive 366 peaks, but less than 1% of the peaks
in the state.
The only other sub 1% state is KY but this one is
not exactly AK class - it should be possible to break
the 1% barrier in a day or two - or just have Ken Oeser
record his LOJ summits ...
