More prominent line parent?

Postby RyanSchilling » Tue Jun 02, 2015 3:07 pm

John, I was looking at some peaks' parent lineages, and it occurred to me that it could be interesting to present the first peak along that lineage that is more prominent than the subject peak. Since this already exists in your data in most cases, I'd think the query would be simple enough, though it could be taxing for your database.

Is what I've described the equivalent to the concept of encirclement/island parentage, or is there something about that definition that I'm not considering?

I think at one point we were using the term 'Prominence Parent' to describe the Line Parent, and it was tossed since the definition was thought to be more along the lines of what you're now proposing. Does this seem to be what you remember as well?

Here's something I added to the parent lineage page (appears as a link on every peak's profile):

This looks great, thank you!

Do you think that meets the definition of island/encirclement parentage?

Seems like there may be a bug. Check out Mount Lemmon's lineage, for example, where many lower prominence peaks are highlighted.
