Flatiron Additions

Postby Brian Crim » Tue Sep 11, 2012 7:17 am

So I was looking through the Flatirons in the Eldorado Springs Quad. There are a few closed-contours that are formations that appear in multiple guidebooks (at least both Roach and Rossiter) that may be worth adding. Here are just a few...

"The Fist" - 5.5 - Lat: 39.9809 Lon: -105.2946
"Ridge 3" - 5.3 - Lat: 39.9798 Lon: -105.2936
"Ridge 1 aka Heaven" - 5.3 - Lat: 39.9795 Lon: -105.2912
"Hillbilly Rock" - 5.2 - Lat: 39.9798 Lon: -105.2904
"The Hammerhead" - 5.0 - Lat: 39.9840 Lon: -105.2923
"Ridge 2 aka Satan's Slab" - 5.0 - Lat: 39.9794 Lon: -105.2925
"Backporch" - 5.6 - Lat: 39.9761 Lon: -105.2910
"Achean Pronouncement" - 5.8 - Lat: 39.9770 Lon: -105.2905
"The Dreadnaught" - 5.2 - Lat: 39.9757 Lon: -105.2919

Also...

"First Pinnacle" - 5.0 - Lat: 39.9959 Lon: -105.2928
The "Second Pinnacle" it the other closed contour right next to it as well. Also 5.0.

There are more too. Do these count to be added? Every one of them that I mentioned above has at least 1 closed contour on the map and is mentioned in the Roach, Rossitter and Haas Flatiron guidebooks. Closed contour and inclusion in a guidebook are what matters right? I also have photos of all these, if they do get added I'll upload photos.

GR calls "Ridge 3" - "Angelic Perch", and The Dreadnaught - "The Rainbow" in his book.

Looks like FO has copy&paste wrong coord. It should be 39.9742, -105.2914.

Gregory Flatironette is the closed contour @ 6420 SW of the mentioned Gregory Amphitheatre Pinnacles.

Jason Haas book is a 3rd source for these POI(s).

Certainly more if you want to capture all the closed contours in the Flatirons. Just see GR's list :
