Where's Spalding?

Postby CharlesD » Mon Aug 22, 2005 4:47 pm

Imagine my dismay when, returning from a casual jaunt around the upper portions of the Mount Evans Massif, I discovered that Mount Spalding (13,842') isn't in the list of 13ers to tick off! Dammit, I drove all the way to 12,800 and huffed and puffed up nearly a thousand feet. I want the satisfaction of ticking something off on a list!

OK, so it's not a killer peak or even marginally challenging, but the view is great and it beats a day sitting at home organizing my socks. Is there any particular reason Spalding doesn't count? It looks like there's ~200' of drop down to the saddle at the top of Sunrise Couloir.

John only lists the ranked summits - the ones that have a prominence of at least 300 feet. Unfortunately, Spalding's prominence is less than that , so it's unranked.
