Kirk Mallory completes Alamosa, Summit, and Lake Counties

Postby TeresaGergen » Sun Jun 27, 2010 10:15 pm

Over the past 4 weekends, all in the month of June, Kirk Mallory completed Alamosa, then Summit, then Lake counties. Rumor has it he's not done yet.

Congrats, Kirk!

Awesome! Good to see some green counties on your statewide progress map. San Juan county up next? Only a couple more to go there.

Didn't take him long!

This morning, I joined Kirk for Sliderock Ridge, a repeat 12er for me, and most definitely not a trivial peak, and then we stepped onto the summit of Potato Hill together a few hours later, finishing San Juan County together. We've now both done exactly the same 5 counties.

Thanks everyone!

Potato Hill, the lowest peak in the county, was actually quite a nice one to finish on. Despite a little deadfall to work around, it had a nice open summit with great views of the surrounding San Juans, especially of the Twilights to the east. I'm just glad Sliderock Ridge wasn't the final one. Had great views too, but not a very enjoyable climb. I'm not sure how that mountain is still standing. Seems like it's ready to fall over and take the county line with it. Teresa - I can't thank you enough for repeating that thing with me. I'm glad our final peak in the county was together on such a nice peak in great weather.
