new Larimer Co. soft ranked peak

Postby JoeGrim » Sun Feb 07, 2010 8:43 am

I believe I have found a new Larimer Co. soft ranked peak. There are two candidates side by side, both within very small closed 8080' contours (giving an interpolated height of 8100'). One is located at 40.73317, -105.51297 and the other is located at 40.73331, -105.51318. Their saddle elevation is interpolated as 7820' (40.73208, -105.51138).

I know that peaks with an interpolated prominence of 280' only have a 25% chance of actually being ranked, and looking at the contours here, they probably even have less chance than that, but it's still a slight possibility so they need to be soft ranked until proven otherwise.

Looks like I'll have to add this peak to my Larimer Co. map.

Looks like it could be an interesting finish with contours stacked like that:

I'll probably check it out this spring or summer.

FOUND ANOTHER ONE!

I was plotting out a route to this most recent new soft ranked peak and I found another one nearby: 7940'

Like the previous one, it appears quite unlikely for this peak to be truly ranked, but it's still surrounded by 7 40' contours, so it's always a possibility, albeit small.
