Thanks guys, it was a long time coming. I started off with Grays and Torreys and trying to do all the 13'ers on the Grays and Loveland Quads back in the late 90's. It wasn't until late '08 that I noticed that I was more than halfway finished and decided to try to get it done in a few months. I started on some of the lower peaks in November before the really big snows came. I managed to get quite a few done like Douglas Mountain and Ute BM , Saxon Mountain. Santa Fe was a really nice peak featuring a nice long winding ridge through the forest. I had a tough time finding the summit in that thick forest. It wasn't until I saw a jar in the rocks on one of the points that I knew I had it for sure. First name I saw on the notepad was Luke Plumley. I think one of those Clear Creekers was his 500th peak!
After the spring thaw, I got Steve Knapp to do some with me around Georgetown. We really enjoyed the slog between Alpine and Griffin! Silver Plume was really a nice little peak punctuated by a big rock. It took me 10 minutes to climb up. I circled around many times before deciding on the eastside of the rock. I didn't like the prospect of doing a mantle move to get on top fearing that I would fall in between the boulders and break my leg. Finally, I just leaned a post up against the rock and climbed up in less than 10 seconds and summited at 4:04 pm 7/21/09, almost exactly 14 years to the day of topping out on Grays and Torreys!
I don't know if I really have a favorite peak, but some of these climbs really give you some different views of the more famous neighbors including Apache and Navajo, Powell and Eagle's Nest and the Ripsaw Ridge and the rest of the Gores. The Williams Fork Mountains have some very interesting valleys to the west that look worthwhile to explore. A handfull of really nice CD loops exist here in the county including Geneva Basin and Fall River Res Basin and Jones Pass area to Stanley or even to Berthod Pass.
Clear Creek has something for everyone!
