Northern & southern summit elevations of ranked 8140A Je

Postby VinceKloster » Mon Mar 02, 2009 10:41 am

I hiked up ranked 8140A near the Buffalo Creek area in Jefferson County. I visited the northern summit first and it has a register and a benchmarck called JCMD127 from 1977. The register was placed there by who else but Mike Garratt on 2/22/03. Strangely, the other signers of this register did not include any other names that I normally would see i.e. from those who are on Lists of John. I easily found this register next to the benchmark. I have to believe that someone has determined that the southern area is the true high point. Has anyone confirmed this? Just curious. I did take a GPS reading on the southern summit of 8,170.

John - should probably do a mass e-mail for the "summitteers". I plan on going back soon. The map is missing a closed contour.

I went over both contours from north to south and it appeared visually that the south area was higher, so I didn't even bother to level. There was way too much snow to find a register when I did it.

I did this one relatively recently and remember wondering which was higher, so I did them both. I don't even remember a summit register, though to be honest I never really look that hard for them...the ones I do find tend to be soggy messes, any way.
