Luke Plumley finishes Clear Creek County!

With 2 successful summits today (a work day for most people), Luke finished the ranked peaks in CCC! Congrats, Luke!

Are you OK being included in the CMC's list of County Peak finishers? (I'm the one doing the article "Beyond The Thirteeners".)

Congrats Luke - Thanks for bringing back memories of the Silver Plume summit block the other day.

Congratulations Luke. I'm a jealous man indeed. I'll join you next year hopefully. I lost interest on the home stretch and then you sprinted right by me  Were you "working from home" like Pete was?

Thanks for the congrats everyone. Clear Creek County was a fine list. I couldn't even wait until the weekend to finish it. And what a way to finish. Red Mountain is a monster, complete with the "Pit of Despair"! If you haven't climbed that one yet, be afraid, be very afraid! Great challenging finish. Now, what is next??? Can I catch you, Mike? I am only 149 behind you.....

Luke,
Congrats. Red was a very "fun" mountain. I'm glad that won't be my finishing peak for the county....rather stressful. Though your picture of Silver Plume has me a little nervous. It doesn't look like a fun boulder for short guys.

Ryan......banking was the topic of many conversations during the hike. Interest rates....subprime mortgages.....etc

It was my finishing peak also. Can't say I'd recommend it as a "fun peak" although it does promise a really different experience.

Way to go, Luke! I'm surprised you saved Red as your finisher! That's got to be the loosest pile of choss (albeit man made) that I have ever climbed.

Kevin,

Not sure why it worked out to be my finisher, and Pete and I also selected the northern loop around the crater, which was one of our poorer route choices of all time! And then our descent route.....
Did you guys also take the northern (left) side of the crater? Seemed the smarter choice from the saddle with 12317.... The stress fractures near the rim make me think it was not.

Thinking back though, I am not sure which peak I would choose to be the best one to finish on in the county. My favorite may actually have been Point 11060B. That is a short, steep bushwhack away from the crowds with a fine summit complete with old register and all.

Luke:

Yes, we did take the northern side of the crater. We thought the road on the saddle would end up taking us away from the summit. We too were concerned about the stability of the land!

I was giving Pete crap for not reading my freakin' trip report I wrote up on these peaks. The road is definitely the way to go. You lose very little elevation and completely avoid all that nasty crumbly stuff.

Nice job Luke! Red sounds about as fun as Bartlett, darn miners...

Thanks Mike,

I might hold off on Bartlett until it becomes an unranked 8er.
