Chicago Basin to Ruby

Postby Chris Fisher » Sat Jun 21, 2008 4:07 pm

Have any of you made the trip from Chicago Basin to the Ruby Drainiage? Just wandering what it's like and which way is best. I was thinking of going between Twin Thumbs and Glacier Point, then traversing NW to Ruby. It'll be with a full pack. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

havn't done it myself, but I was on a trip where my partner did it, while I went up New York and into Ruby. It went pretty smooth for him, didn't have any problems.

I know of several others who have gone that way without any issues.

You have to drop down to almost 12400 to get easy footing on the snow with a full pack . It will likely be all snow at the 4th of July this year. Early in the morning you will need crampons on the N side of the Glacier-Thumb Pass. In the afternoon you can do it with just an ice axe.

Reminds me to ask. Has anyone tried the 13172 point N of Peak 11? It has a 272' drop.
