Clear Creek Completion

Postby John Kirk » Sun Jun 17, 2007 1:23 pm

Finished up the 64 ranked Clear Creek summits this morning on perhaps the least pleasant one, Red Mountain - guess it works out that way sometimes. In any event, I can provide beta on any if needed.

I did them all except 8890 on Meridian Hill before I left the Front Range.
Were you able to get this one also or it a subdivision now?

Red Mtn. - That's the one by glory hole on Berthoud Pass Quad.
I did it over 20 years ago along the ridge from 12317 and up the SW ridge.
The high point on the topo - 12315 - (including the CMC register)and the SW ridge have been eaten by the glory hole. When I went back up the NW ridge, I was surprised to see the top gone like the 13ers to the E of Climax.

Congrats, John! I noticed you have updated the elevation of Red Mtn F. How was the traverse from 12317?

I did this with Bob Martin and Tim Worth last summer. There is no development near the summit itself. We parked on the road about here:

It was not too bad following the left(north) side of the crater. It was loose, but not overly so. Took a gully of sorts straight to the summit once a bit past the highest saddle. Made sure to stay 20' from the edge at all times except the summit. There was falling rock heard and seen the entire time with huge debris clouds.

Nice going John. These county lists make for interesting goals since many of the lower peaks can easily be done after work and in winter. I've found the Larimer list to be a fun project, though I'm barely over half way finished(130/255).

For CC, I think Bob Martin has done everything except Floyd Benchmark.

Bob Martin?

Tim - Do you have any info from him as far as completions? I know he has written in several places he is done with several counties... But I don't have any checklist of any kind.

I am taking over the County list stuff from him, as he is no longer in a state to do the articles. Teresa is doing the elevation-related lists (14ers, 13ers, High 100, 200 +, etc.).

Thanks!

Hey Jeremy, When we were working on the ranked list for Colorado, Bob provided me with his lists which included dates for everything he had done under 12K. I can't remember which counties he has completed. I don't have access to my computer or this file at the moment, I think I sent John a copy at the time, he may be able to forward it along.

Good to hear you're doing the county article this year - there are probably more completions to report on the county lists than ever before.

Sweet. There are a number of finishers, for sure. Pretty interesting! If you have the chance to pass it along to me, please do. I don't have any of Bob's info, other than what he says he completed (without listing anything specific), so I'm curious and eager to see it. Thanks! :)
