Nokhu Crags elevation

Postby kirkmallory » Mon Nov 13, 2006 12:26 pm

I copied the 12er list a long time ago into Excel, I'm sure from this site, and have been using that as my personal check-off list since then. But I've noticed that the elevation for Nokhu Crags has changed from a 12,500-foot interpolated elevation to the 12,485 elevation printed on the map. Gerry's site still lists South Nokhu Crag at 12,500 and North Nokhu Crag at 12,485 (unranked). Gerry's RMNP book indicates the north 12,485-foot summit is higher, but has that changed? Did someone hand-level the two and determine that the southern was higher? This could be a big deal to some, because it would be a 1000-highest peak if it's 12,500.

Bob Martin hand-leveled apparently. Here is his comment emailed to me Ocotber 5th:

Jackson co, Mt Richthofen topo, Nokhu Crags. Hi is 12485, higher than interpolated 12500 to s.

Given the nature of the Nokhu Crags crappy rock, it wouldn't surprise me if the summit elevations change each season. 8)

I was always under the impression that the north summit was taller; it certainly looks taller from the approach.
