Brutal. I didn't hear about the original incident. Anyone keeping tabs on the fatalities in Colorado mountains recently?

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any one place where CO mountain accidents or fatalities are tracked.

Going by the 14ers.com forum, in 2021 there have been fatalities on Mount Lady Washington (RMNP) and Mt. Emma (San Juans). Also three people killed in an avalanche near The Nose (San Juans). Plus the recent fatality on Capitol Peak.

Here's their "Climbing Accidents" subforum. But sometimes threads about accidents (such as the Capitol Peak accident in your OP) are put in the wrong subforum.

Another resource is the American Alpine Club's online accident database. However, it tends to lag a bit (the most recent CO entries are from 2020). And it lists a lot of accidents that occurred on the climbing crags.

Go to the link below, type "Colorado" in the prominent search box, de-select "AAJ" and select "Accidents", then click search. You'll probably want to sort the results by "newest."
