Dumb map question-Help

Postby Tom Pierce » Thu Nov 19, 2020 11:06 am

Hey fellow LoJ'ers:

I should know this by now, but don't, hence the "dumb question" in my title. Q: On the drop-down maps on the site, which map and which color on that map designates public/BLM land? CalTopo? I'm pondering an overnight recon trip of a peak and want to car camp near the base on public land. Not fun to drive for hours, then have to scramble at dusk for a new camp spot when my intended site isn't available. Can someone chime in? Many thanks in advance,

Hi Tom,
It's not in the map choice drop-down. You can choose any of those maps. Down at the bottom right corner of an LoJ Full Screen Map is a box with "Add Land Mgt" as a clickable link. That will overlay the public lands layer on top of any of the map types. Once you have that layer on, there is a color-coded legend near the bottom left of the screen. Orange is BLM, green is USFS, gray is NPS, blue is some form of state land, etc.
