Centralia Mountain and/or Mount Tom

Postby kcmule » Sat Apr 01, 2006 8:29 pm

Looking for any additional info on either of these mountains as a potential bushwhack trip this summer. I read the trip report of Centralia on this web site and it is helpful. I would like to know if hiking is 'welcome' in this area, especially when crossing the saddle to Tom. Are there are concerns about hunters in the area? And any info on how best to approach the climb.

Thanks in advance

I did Centralia last fall, using the same route as John K (but no snow for me). I then attempted to go over to Tom. Well, I didn't pay enough attention to my map and ended up on Point 9740 due south of Centralia. Took me quite a while to figure out that I had screwed up so I didn't get to Tom. I also got turned around just getting back to Centralia from Pt 9740. There is some sort of old camp at the west end of the 9740-Centralia saddle: outhouse, trailer, bus, bathtub, old motorcycle...lots of junk. Anyway, take a map and compass (and/or GPS)...hard to see where you want to go with all those trees.
