Teresa Gergen Completes Clear Creek County P300 List

Postby Brian Kalet » Tue Oct 14, 2014 6:40 pm

Teresa Gergen completed the list of P300 peaks in Clear Creek County today with an ascent of unnamed peak 8890. She only has 1 left in Hinsdale County, but that last one looks tough!

That one looks even worse than ole "Rabbit Ears"...

Thanks! CCC and Gilpin have been driving me nuts for years. Turns out some lists are easier to complete mid day during the week when most people are at work :-)

Would be thrilled to offer a belay to anyone who thinks they can lead that Hinsdale 9er, Rabbit Ears, and Koven, WY. In the meanwhile, I'm hanging out in Chaffee, for the time being.

Congratulations on finishing CCC though the big congrats awaits your completion of >= 10K ranked peaks.

I also have found that weekday, off-season efforts are the key to ticking "troublesome" peaks without a lot of stress.

I'd consider leading Koven next summer. Maybe Derek would be interested too. Looks like the North Ridge from Gannett Glacier is the best bet, yes?

Weekday, off season, and not hunting season, especially where private hunting ranches are involved...

Koven from the north col is about 5.6 with a lot of technical traversing. The guidebooks say only Class 4-easy 5 for the south ridge, but it's full of gendarmes, so unless you can just walk right around them all, I've been worried that it's another case of lying guidebooks. Perfect scenario would be to go with 2 other technical climbers so the two of you can stay in and climb all the cool other peaks from the eastern approach after getting all the way in there, while I can leave after Koven and get out of your way with my slower pace. The WY 13ers mean more to me after what I've been through for them than any other list I've worked on or completed.
