Per Mike Garratt, 2008:
...I went to do the last 2 niners on the S edge of the Cimarrona Q and found 9854 has a high point that is a rotten 30 foot high conglomerate spire in the trees overhung on all sides.
Climbed the next higher spire.
Will have to wait till the higher one falls over to claim the ascent.
Keeps me from cleaning out that Q.
9890 was no problem.

Maybe we just need to bring a tow strap and sledge hammer...

Luke – I briefly mused about Gunnison County. Then I noticed that Curecanti Needle lives there.

It's high on my to-do list. Should go 5.6. Chances of getting this one are good!

I'd love to do that, too. My parent's B&B isn't very far from there.

I can get a lead line over a 30' rotten pile... :shh:

New Chaffee Peak 8,980' was found using some DEM tools developed by Joe Grim - I had to re-complete the county yesterday after the first time in July 2011 .
:chair:
This is the second county I've had to re-complete - I found a new one in Park County in Feb 2011 after finishing Oct 2009.
Fremont, Conejos, and Eagle also lost full county completions due to new additions in the last week or so. No CO additional finds are anticipated...

Fortunately for Steve, I found this one with more than 30 peaks left before he could complete the county.

Conejos:
8147

Very interesting that you've been finding new peaks John, cool to see the county lists evolve. Congrats on finishing Chaffee yet again, Ken and MG need to get after it. I noticed the new Conejos peak recently, thought I was seeing things as I knew we had driven right past it last spring and wouldn't have skipped it. Mike already climbed it though, so his Conejos completion is still intact.

Were any or all of the new four already on the site as soft ranked? I'm guessing that the Conejos peak was since MG climbed it.

None were. There were actually 14 new ranked peaks found, primarily in the NW part of the state.

Sweet, nice work Ken. I was hoping I wouldn't have to bug you for two more years on this one!

Steve – I really did consider annoying you for a few years, just to demonstrate my mental toughness. But, given an MD appointment in Salida this afternoon, I decided to sneak up there afterward, dodge the t-storms, and get it done.
