North Gold Dust/13346/Finnegan...

Interesting conversation regarding the name of this peak near Holy Cross:

"Mountain Jim" must have an older edition of the Ormes guide than I do in which the peak is called Finnegan Peak. The 10th ed. features no reference to the peak at all. A real estate company appears to be aware of the name. Perhaps it's well-known to locals?

There is nothing in my second edition of Ormes (1955) about the name "Finnegan Peak."
I did not invent the name "North Gold Dust" - it's been in use for years by peak baggers.
It's just a convenient moniker. I'm happy to use "Finnegan," but would like to know
where the name comes from.

The sixth edition of Ormes has a drawing looking north from Gold Dust Peak identifying "Finnigan Peak" east of New York Lake.

The seventh edition does not have this drawing but has the text, "13,346' Groundsquirrel Peak, directly W [sic?] of New York Lake, and the N face of Gold Dust, to the south, both look extremely steep and rough, and probably have a full share of rotten rock."
