finding unclimbed peaks in common

Postby JoeGrim » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:25 am

Hi John,

I was wondering if it would be difficult to make a feature where one can find peaks in a certain area that are unclimbed by two (or more) people. I believe you had something like this for 13ers and 14ers at one time, didn't you? Another similar feature that would be nice to have is where one could find peaks climbed by one member and not another. Is it possible to have something like this? If so, would you be willing to add it?

Thanks!

+1, Joe. When you want to plan a climb with two or more people who seem to have summitted every named or ranked point within a 200 mile radius of your home, this feature you recommend would make planning a lot easier. Currently, I utilize a messy hunt-and-peck method of finding something I want to climb, then checking the completers' list. Usually I have to "lather, rinse, repeat" several times before finding something that works / is unclimbed by all.

...and, if we don't say it enough: Thanks, John, for all you do! You d'man! :Mr. T:

There is something like this for the 13ers...

In terms of options to narrow down the list you want, is county an acceptable filter?

Yes, county would be wonderful. It would help us narrow it down, and then we can sort through those peaks. Thanks!

Yes - county is a fine filter to narrow down the needle in the haystack. Thanks!

http://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/Content/groupcs.php
I added in some extra features like prominence filtering, exporting the lists, and Google Map of resulting lists
Available from listsofjohn.com->Member Tools->Unclimbed by Custom Group

Will add in elevation range as alternative to county filtering at some point (in part to replace old 13er version of this with the new functionality)

Thanks John!

Wanted to alert you to one small glitch... if you select a 300' prominence, none of the counties populate the drop-down list on the subsequent page. All other prominences seem to work fine.

At least that's what I'm seeing on my machine (Win 7, Firefox 3.6.14... Problem also is happening with IE 8.0).

Many thanks here too, John!

I also have the same problem with P300.

0' prom not working...

Shows:

CO, ' Min. Prominence
Select a County

- Or -
Select Elevation Range:

Similar issue when 0' prom is selected. The drop down boxes are ITSY BITSY and apparently empty? It works for the other proms.

Thanks for pointing this out - should work now. '0' is often treated as null and the variable is then empty - I previously set some string substitutions for zero+ elevation, but forgot to set for zero+ prom as well.
