Waypoints are nice but have limitations (at least in Garmin): i.e. 500 max waypoints, max notes characters=30, max name length=10, disallowing same names, etc.
There is a way around the lousy limitations of waypoints by loading custom Points of Interest.
Garmin POI loader
I will be building an interface that enables download of all summits in a state with option to select only unclimbed by a member, with custom elevation and prominence thresholds in a .csv file. Then loading a GPS ever again isn't necessary except to ensure data is the latest from the LoJ database or to exclude summits you've done since your last POI csv download from LoJ (or if you only selected a custom elevation range/prominence threshold). Requires compatibility (see link above to see if your model is compatible) and adequate internal memory/micro SD card. Other options on the GPS should be optimized for POIs instead of waypoints (such as point display zoom level - default is usually 300', but I prefer to see points on the GPS when zoomed out a lot further (12 miles)). I will post again once the interface is up, and I'll create a help/support document.
This will be free to members who have donated $20 or more in a rolling 365 day period.
Here is a sample of what you can get from the CSV LoJ files:
