Missing Hiker - Sangre de Cristos

Postby susanjoypaul » Mon Dec 06, 2010 3:24 pm

Hey folks,

If anyone is going to be hiking in the Sangre de Cristos in the near future, please keep your eyes open for missing hiker Abisha Mounce.

Here's a link to the details, including a picture of Abisha:

Abisha, or "Abe," left Atlanta, Georgia on October 21st, and drove to Colorado. He had quit his job and told his wife he was going hiking. His Jeep and cell phone have since been recovered at the North Crestone Trailhead. Saguache County SAR has searched the area twice, with dogs, but found no leads or scent. Per his wife, there has been no bank account or credit card activity on any of Abisha's accounts.

According to the Pueblo Chieftain, the search has been called off till next Spring:

His mother has reached out to the hiking community and asked that this story be communicated to those folks most likely to be hiking in that area. If you see or hear anything that might be of assistance in recovering her son, please report it to the Saguache County Sheriff's Office at 719-655-2525.

Thank you.

The missing hiker's mother, Ingmar, has a request for anyone hiking in areas where clues regarding her son's disappearance might be found. Please see her message below, dated 12/23/2010:

My son, Abisha Mounce remains missing. His Jeep was found at the Circle Terminal Trailhead just north of Crestone on October 26, 2010. After the Saguache Sheriff's sar was completed, with no result, a good climber of the area has done a 10 day search for us, also with no result, no sign of either Abish, his remains, or of any campsites.

A flyer is available here: http://www.rwood.com/Abisha.pdf

If during your winter hikes, you can make report of the area you have been in, in the Sangre de Cristos and the San Juans, this climber, who also compiled the mapping of the Saguache County Sheriff's SAR, will compile a map of areas where someone has been and seen no signs. He requests that "anyone that is out ‘hiking’ report on the route they hiked and whether they saw anything including an abandoned camp. If possible ask them to attach a GPS tracklog."

Please send your report to: searchforabisha@gmail.com

Thank you.

Hey folks,

Ingmar has asked that I pass on the new website for her missing son, Abisha, to anyone who might be traveling in the Sangre de Cristos. It's here: http://www.searchforabisha.org/Abisha.pdf

She notes: "This will soon contain mapping w/ gps tracking where anyone has been hiking and looking for any sign."

I know that some of you have already provided her with some information and tracks on your hikes in that area, and she's very thankful for that. If you're in that area and notice anything out of the ordinary - abandoned campsite, clothing, gear, etc. - please relay the information on. Likewise, if you search an area and find nothing, let her know that too, so they can eliminate future search areas. Thanks a bunch.
