the windows section quadrangle - utah

hey john,

i noticed a couple of things of note for this quad while viewing some utah options.

off-balance rock is missing from this list. according to summitpost, the elevation is 5200' and using your saddle for balanced rock next door, the prominence would be 140'. also, bullwinkle tower has been omitted from the list, SP again lists the elevation at 5200' and my guess for prominence would be 80'. it might be up to 100', but i wouldn't guess any higher, yet it's so difficult to tell sometimes. also, both of these guys go at 5.7.

a couple of us may be back this way in the near future. if we find anything useful for this site, we'll pass that info along.

These are not official names and they aren't on the map, so I don't necessarily agree about there being an omission/mistake etc. I'll see about adding these soon (and some others on SP).

i don't understand what your criteria is between towers, like off balance and bullwinkle, that aren't listed and the others that made the list like buccaneer, duck-on-the rock and the devils golf ball. on the maps i'm looking at they are all the same thing, a small cluster of jammed together lines. on the mytopo maps linked to this site, off-balance is the higher point just north of balanced rock while bullwinkle is just west of what looks like elephant butte's west ridge.

with all the towers in this area, and others throughout utah et al, it's inevitable that places like this will be "discovered" by members.

Devils Golf Ball, Duck-on-the-Rock, and Buccaneer Rock made it because they are officially named features:
