just wanted to extend a shout-out to albee for completing all 648 (greater than 300ft prominent) peaks of New Hampshire. I do not know albee but felt the need to highlight this impressive accomplishment. Congratulations!

Indeed - nice work! Only similar accomplishment I can think of is Rob Woodall completing all of Britain (involves some technical climbs).

Completing all summits in New Hampshire. Wow! Very impressive. Brian mentions the completion of Rhode Island with its one summit. Indiana with 3, Iowa with 3 and Mississippi with 5 have also been completed.
No other states have been completed unless you care to include DE, FL, KS, LA and DC which have none.

Dang! Congrats!! There will probably never be another state with more ranked peaks that'll be completed, and that also goes for most states with fewer!

As for finished states--I've completed RI (1), IA (3), and IN (5). One of the Indiana peaks has bad access. MS has 3 candidates I want to complete sometime next year too, and I think the next easiest state is IL with 14--I'm not gonna bother with that one. Then NE with 42, some of which may be essentially impossible or off-limits (technical sandstone). Probably significant private property issues on most other states with under a hundred ranked summits.

albee walks too fast for me so I went on only one hike with him, involving a traverse of a certain game park with 3 ranked peaks, 3 unranked peaks named on the park map, and 4 town highpoints

NH has no peaks requiring technical skills (in summer) and none that can't be done as day hikes (~ 18 miles), however there are numerous private property issues particularly among the lower peaks. You either need to get a lot of permissions or walk up driveways at midnight to mini-mansions on the summit.

Also note that to be thorough there are cases in which there is more than one candidate for the prominence although the auto-generated list shows only one, so albee had to climb more than 648 peaks to finish.

Agree, this is an unexpected accomplishment.

which shows 19 states with fewer peaks that are
not completed. Of these IL looks pretty easy
to polish off, and I expect MN would be completed
by now if not for bad access.

Never say never :)

VT with 733 summits is one possibility. PA with 889
is likely easier hiking, but could have some access
issues.

Of course the one state that looks to be flat out
impossible is Alaska, where Ben Still has climbed
an impressive 366 peaks, but less than 1% of the peaks
in the state.

The only other sub 1% state is KY but this one is
not exactly AK class - it should be possible to break
the 1% barrier in a day or two - or just have Ken Oeser
record his LOJ summits ...

Hard to compare these things. The UK list which I (and now 3 others) have completed is P500ft - some fairly easy rock climbing, a lot of logistics, a few fairly minor access issues and a fair bit of bushwhacking. Total 1556 summits but mostly just day hikes.

Ken Whyte has completed all but half a dozen of GB's nearly 3000 P300ft summits. The half dozen involve fairly serious sea stack climbing (we're working on them). And a few more fairly minor access issues and some more bushwhacking.

In terms of private land, the P30m summits of some of the English counties have a lot of access issues (but over here we don't get shot or locked up). Adrian Rayner (albee knows him too) has completed Southeast England - 277 P30s - probably the trickiest area to complete. I and Dave Geere have both completed all 696 P30s in Cumbria (the English Lake District) which have their fair share of private land issues and high mountains but mostly nice 'normal' hiking.
