NC Highest 200 Completion

Postby wayfarer » Sun Mar 29, 2015 7:51 am

A belated congratulations to my good friend Peter Barr whom I was with on Friday, March 6 when he completed the North Carolina Highest 200 atop Mary Knob. More list completions to follow soon...

Nice work Peter - many challenges involved I'm sure.

Congratulations Peter! I can only imagine how difficult that list must be. That's an impressive accomplishment. What's the next list?

Way to go Peter. Serious bushwhacking on that list for sure!!! And most of the highest peaks in the east.

Thanks guys. I apologize I missed this thread until now. A special thanks to Rick Shortt not only for his acknowledgement, but for joining me on quite a number of these peaks. As far as whether I am the first, I'm not sure. There is another person who completed climbing the NC >4,000 ft. peaks back in the 1980s, but closer review would seem like he may have missed a few--probably because he lacked the help of newer maps and elevation data (and of course, LoJ) back then. So I'm not sure if I'm comfortable claiming first completer.

As for what's next, I'm at:

99 of 100 NC county high points
57 of 58 Southeast 50 Finest
15 of 16 SC >3,000 ft.
93 of 95 NC P1Ks
960 overall ranked peaks (closing in on 1K)

Perhaps 2015 may be a big year for list completions.

I'm also chasing NC >4,000 ft., of which I'm at 335 of 457. Should I ever finish that, I suspect NC Highest 500 will start to itch.

Thanks again everyone,
Peter Barr
