I've ranked NM's peaks from 11ers up, and should have 10ers in the coming months:

Great list! I missed a couple of unnamed ones on my list of the top 25 New Mexico Peaks.

Just one correction I can see so far unless you are going strictly by Topozone. Unnamed 12,357 is Redondo Peak (1). This is the name that is labelled on the Pecos Wilderness U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Southwestern Region Administered by Santa Fe and Carson National Forests NEW MEXICO 2004 map. It's also labelled Redondo on the 1982 and 1976 forest service maps.

On the 1976 forest service map, your "Santa Barbara Peak" is lablelled "Barbara Peak". On the 1982 map, your "Barbara Peak" is lablelled "Barbara Peak" and your "Santa Barbara Peak" is not lablelled. Weird stuff.

Where did you get your peak names that are in quotes?

Thanks for signing up Barry -
I went ahead and renamed 12,357 to Redondo Peak A, and renamed the 11er to Redondo Peak B. I took the names from Herbert Ungnade's 1960 's New Mexico Mountains book.

Great site with a lot of work obviously. I'll have to cruise around the site when I get a chance. Any future Texas lists on the way?

Kirk,

Baldy Peak, TX on your 2000 ft. prominence list should actually be called Mt. Livermore. Hard to explain but Baldy Peak is just a point on the Mt. Livermore Massif. Let me know if you have any questions. I can also provide you with a photo of Emory Peak and Santiago Peak when I get time.

In case anyone is interested in seeing some of the more remote high peaks in New Mexico with labels, here is one from the summit of Jicarita Peak. Neeless to say, the view is spectacular.

Just got back from NM - That's a nice perspective of the Truchas grouping in your link Barry. There were a lot of peaks I was sorry to skip - so little time, especially when the weather isn't cooperating. I hadn't had a chance to really examine the Little Jicarita as 12328/12266 problem - what's your opinion?

I've changed Baldy Peak name to Livermore - that usage is much more commonplace.

Did you make any inquiries about climbing Big Costilla? I may try again next year to see if they'll grant me access.

Back in May, I did Little Costilla, and there were a number of camping areas along the road on the way. There were no fences on the north side of the road or signs, and it looked pretty straight-forward to just hike it from there. I may do this next year and try to combine Big Costilla & Vintero Benchmark. It would be 11 miles each way.

Let me know when you do this, I might be up for it if I have the time.
