List "NM On-Top-Of-The-World Mountains" By fredbrown

Notes: This list is based on work by Kai Xu. In his words:

A mountain is “on top of the world” (OTOTW) if no land rises above the horizon of an observer at its summit, considering that distant terrain dips below the horizon due to Earth’s curvature. OTOTW mountains are often the highest points within their local vicinities, featuring expansive summit views and dominating their surroundings. The horizon is defined as the flat plane that intersects the summit and is perpendicular to the direction of gravity at the summit. “Above the horizon” refers to the side of this plane opposite the direction of gravity.

JUT - a measure of a mountain’s impressiveness, considering its height above immediate surroundings and steepness.
Top three NM peak JUT ranking: (1) Big Hatchet Peak, (2) Sandia Crest and (3) Sierra Blanca.

An interactive map can be found at OTOTWmountains.com

Calculations are made possible with Andrew Kirmse’s work in identifying every mountain worldwide, as well as the Copernicus GLO-30, ALOS World 3D-30m, and MERIT digital elevation models, the EGM2008 geoid model, and Google Earth Engine. OTOTW is a concept developed by Kai Xu, with more information in his research paper (https://arxiv.org/abs/2208.01600).
Special thanks to Andy Martin who unknowingly introduced me to OTOTW mountains.
