Buffalo/Sacred Buffalo

Has anyone ever hand leveled Buffalo Mountain/Sacred Buffalo in Summit County? They both have the same contour. I was on Buffalo yesterday and the Sacred Buffalo bump certainly did look higher.

Good idea to visit both areas in cases like this. It seemed pretty close to me, but I think the north is higher. Interesting traverse between the two.

Yeah, I'll have to go back and do the traverse this summer, it was already corniced so I didn't complete the traverse.

So I went back up yesterday and did the traverse - from Sacred Buffalo Buffalo looks higher, then again Sacred Buffalo looks higher from Buffalo... who knows. Fun traverse at least.

Also, I came across the following info:
In Best Summit Hikes in Colorado by James Dziezynski he puts Sacred Buffalo at 12,755ft

On a sidenote, I was reading an older version of that book the other day - he has a number of really funky names in there.

I just PMed him on 14ers regarding where the name came from.

One of the peaks by Vasquez he said he named after his cat.

So here's his reply:

"As for the naming of Sacred Buffalo, I have no idea of its origins but I can say that it has been used informally as a peak name for many years (much in the same way "The Citadel" is not an officially named peak but its unofficial name has stuck). I ended up going contacting the CMC and and American Alpine Club to verify that "Sacred Buffalo" was indeed an accepted name of the sub-peak -- it was a woman at CMC encouraged the name "Sacred Buffalo Shuff-a-lo". I'm not certain if my book was the first time it appeared in print but either way, it's a great name for that scrappy little peak!"
